We started in the stable of a nineteenth century farmhouse with lots of they'll-never-make-it comments. The idea of starting a kitchenware business in the stable of an old farm in rural Maine seemed, at best, risky, at worst, totally insane. Here we are, eleven years later, doubled in size with a loyal customer base and a reputation for providing what cooks need to fulfill all their creative passions for cooking and entertaining. The preparation of food, the enjoyment of feasting, are things which we here at The Well Tempered Kitchen realize are not only basic human needs but what brings people together. On the outside this place is beautiful. We are a few minutes from the ocean, the farmland & woods surrounding our farm are green & lush, and we’ve noticed that the sun shines a lot here. In the spring & summer we have lovely flower gardens, where hummingbirds & butterflys flit in & out, for all to enjoy,. And best of all, we are a working farm with goats, chickens, a rabbit &, of course, a dog & cats. On the inside the store offers a very large inventory of quality tools for the kitchen – cookware, bakeware, knives, cookbooks, small electrics, tabletop items, & now gourmet food all displayed in an attractive manner and organized in a way that makes it easy to find what you are looking for. Believing the old adage, ”You get what you pay for”, we carry only quality tools for the kitchen because we feel ultimately those are the best value. The cookware, bakeware, cutlery, electrics, and gadgets are the best on the market.. Our staff is friendly & well-trained to assist each customer in making the purchase that fits their particular need, whether that is a potato peeler or a panini grill. We have all used most of the products in the store or have done research on those products in order to talk about the products with first-hand knowledge (the best kind). We love to talk recipes, food and feasting. We have demos in our kitchen on every other Saturday to inform our customers about certain products and how to use them. There is usually something to taste from our food line in the store most days.
